Eternal Perspective

It is easy to become consumed with what is right in front of us. Our daily responsibilities, our goals, our struggles—they can take up so much of our attention that we lose sight of the bigger picture. But as believers, we are called to live with an eternal perspective. In Colossians, chapter 3, verse 2, we are told:

“Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.”

This does not mean that what we experience here does not matter. It means that it is not the final story. When we focus only on the temporary, we can become discouraged when things don’t go our way. We may place too much value on things that do not last—success, possessions, or approval from others. But when we shift our focus to eternity, everything changes. We begin to see our lives differently. Our priorities shift. What once seemed so important may begin to lose its grip on us. Living with an eternal perspective helps us navigate both success and struggle with a greater sense of purpose. It reminds us that this life is not all there is. So I encourage you to lift your eyes, to look beyond what is temporary and fix your attention on what is eternal.

When we live with eternity in mind, we begin to invest in what truly matters. Let us not become so focused on the temporary that we lose sight of the eternal. Our hope, our purpose, and our future are found in God.

Return to Him

There are moments in life when you drift. Not all at once. Not intentionally. But gradually. Your focus shifts. Your priorities adjust. Your time becomes filled with other things. And before you realize it, the closeness you once felt with God doesn’t feel as strong. Not gone—but distant. And in those moments, it’s easy to feel discouraged. To think, I should have stayed consistent. I should be further along than this. Maybe I’ve drifted too far. But God’s invitation is not based on how far you’ve gone. It is based on his willingness to receive you back. In Joel, chapter 2, verse 12a, we are reminded:

“Even now,” declares the Lord, “return to me with all your heart…”

Even now. That phrase matters. It doesn’t say when you’ve fixed everything. It doesn’t say once you’ve figured it all out. It says even now. Right where you are. There may be moments when you feel like you need to correct everything before you return. To clean things up. To rebuild consistency. To somehow earn your way back to where you think you should be. But God is not asking for perfection before you return. He is asking for your heart. There may also be hesitation. A feeling that you’ve been distant for too long. That returning won’t feel the same. That it might be difficult to reconnect. But distance does not change God’s posture toward you. He is not pulling away. He is inviting you closer. There may be areas in your life right now where you feel that drift. Where your connection feels less intentional than it once did. And in those moments, the most important step is not fixing everything at once. It is simply returning. Turning your attention back to God. Reconnecting in small, intentional ways. Choosing to engage again, even if it feels gradual. There may also be peace available to you in that return. Because returning is not about starting over. It is about continuing forward—with renewed focus. So I encourage you, don’t wait. Don’t overthink it. Don’t measure how far you’ve drifted. Simply return. Even now.

God’s invitation is always open. No matter where you are or how far you feel you’ve drifted, he is ready to receive you. Let us return to him with open hearts, trusting that his grace meets us exactly where we are.

Strength to Persevere

Life is not without challenges. There will be moments when things feel difficult, when progress feels slow, and when giving up seems like the easier option. Perseverance is not always easy—but it is necessary. In Galatians, chapter 6, verse 9, we are encouraged:

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

Perseverance requires patience. It requires continuing forward, even when results are not immediate. It requires trusting that what you are doing matters, even when you cannot yet see the outcome. There will be times when you feel tired, when you question whether it’s worth it, when you wonder if anything is really changing. But growth often happens beneath the surface before it becomes visible. So I encourage you to keep going. Stay faithful. Stay consistent.

Perseverance is not about speed—it is about endurance. When we continue to move forward, even in difficulty, we position ourselves to experience the fruit of our faith. Let us not give up, trusting that God is working, even when we cannot yet see it.

Strong in Quiet Ways

Strength is often associated with what is visible. Bold actions. Confident decisions. Moments where everything comes together and you move forward without hesitation. But not all strength looks like that. Some of the strongest moments in your life will be quiet. Unseen. Internal. In Isaiah, chapter 30, verse 15, we are reminded:

“In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength…”

Quietness. Trust. Strength is not always loud. There may be moments in your life where you don’t feel strong, where things feel uncertain, where your energy feels low, where you’re not moving forward in big, noticeable ways. And in those moments, it can be easy to think that strength is absent. But strength can exist without visibility. It shows up in staying steady when everything feels unsettled. In choosing trust when you don’t have answers. In continuing forward, even when it feels quiet and slow. There may be areas in your life right now where you are demonstrating that kind of strength. Even if you don’t recognize it - choosing patience instead of reacting quickly, choosing peace instead of anxiety, choosing to stay grounded when circumstances feel uncertain. Those are not small things. They are signs of strength. There may also be moments when you compare your current season to others. When you feel like strength should look more visible, more obvious, more active. But your strength is not meant to mirror someone else’s. It is shaped by what God is doing in you. And sometimes, what he is doing is quiet. There may be growth happening in your ability to trust. To rest. To remain steady without needing constant movement. And those things are foundational. They build a kind of strength that is not dependent on circumstances. A strength that holds when things are unclear. There may also be peace available to you when you recognize that you don’t have to prove your strength. You don’t have to perform it. You simply need to remain connected to God. Because your strength comes from him—not from how visible it is. So I encourage you, don’t overlook the quiet strength in your life. Don’t dismiss what feels unseen. Recognize it. Value it. And continue to walk in it.

Strength is not always loud—it is often quiet, steady, and rooted in trust. When we remain still and trust God, we discover a deeper kind of strength that does not depend on circumstances. Let us embrace that strength, knowing that God is working within us even in the quietest moments.

Beneath the Surface

There are seasons in life when it feels like nothing is happening. When progress seems slow, prayers seem unanswered, and change feels distant. We may look at our circumstances and wonder if anything is really moving forward at all. In those moments, it is easy to become discouraged. We often associate growth with visible results. We want to see change, to feel momentum, to recognize that something is happening. But God does not always work in ways that are immediately visible. Much of what God does happens beneath the surface. In Isaiah, chapter 64, verse 4, we are reminded:

“Since ancient times no one has heard, no ear has perceived, no eye has seen any God besides you, who acts on behalf of those who wait for him.”

God is always working—even when we cannot see it. Think about how things grow in nature. Seeds are planted beneath the soil, hidden from view. For a time, it may look like nothing is happening. But beneath the surface, roots are forming. Growth is taking place. Preparation is happening. Then, in time, what was unseen becomes visible. The same is often true in our lives. There may be seasons where you feel like you are not growing. Where your prayers feel repetitive, your efforts feel unnoticed, and your circumstances feel unchanged. But God is working. He may be strengthening your character, deepening your faith, or preparing you for something ahead. He may be aligning circumstances in ways you cannot yet see. Just because you cannot see the progress does not mean there is no progress. So I encourage you not to lose heart in the quiet seasons. Do not measure God’s work only by what is visible.

God’s greatest work is often done beneath the surface. When we trust him in those unseen moments, we develop a deeper, more resilient faith. Let us remain patient, knowing that in time, what God is doing in secret will be revealed.
