Obedience is one of the clearest expressions of our love for God. It is easy to say that we love him. It is easy to worship him with our words. But true love for God is revealed in our willingness to follow him, even when it is difficult. Obedience is not only about staying away from sin. It is also about trust. There are times when God calls us to do things that don’t make sense to us. He may ask us to step out in faith, to let go of something we are holding onto, or to go in a direction that feels uncertain. In those moments, obedience becomes a test of trust. Do we trust God enough to follow him, even when we don’t understand? Jesus makes this connection clear in John, chapter 14, verse 15:
“If you love me, keep my commands.”
Obedience is not about absolute perfection. It is about posture. It is about a heart that desires to follow God, even when we fall short. God is not looking for flawless people. He is looking for faithful ones—people who are willing to say “yes” to him, even when it costs them something. The truth is, partial obedience is still disobedience. When we choose which commands to follow and which to ignore, we place ourselves in the position of authority instead of God. But when we surrender fully, we acknowledge that his ways are better than ours. Obedience also requires humility. It requires us to admit that we don’t have all the answers and that God’s wisdom surpasses our own. It requires us to lay down our pride and trust that he sees what we cannot see. So I encourage you to examine your life. Is there an area where God is calling you to obey, but you’ve been hesitant? Is there something he has placed on your heart that you’ve been resisting? Take that step. Trust him. Follow him.

Obedience is not always easy, but it is always worth it. When we walk in obedience, we position ourselves to experience God’s blessings, his guidance, and his presence in a deeper way. Let us not just hear God’s word, but act on it. Let us be people who love him not only with our words, but with our lives.
