There are seasons in our walk with God when he feels incredibly close—when prayer flows easily, Scripture speaks clearly, and his presence feels undeniable. But there are also seasons when he feels distant. Silent. Hard to find. In those moments, it can be unsettling. We may begin to question whether we’ve done something wrong, whether God is disappointed in us, or even whether he is still near at all. But Scripture reminds us in Hebrews, chapter 13, the second part of verse 5:
“Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”
God’s presence is not dependent on our feelings. Just because he feels distant does not mean he is absent. In fact, many times, it is in these very seasons that he is doing some of his deepest work within us. Feelings can be misleading. They rise and fall based on circumstances, emotions, and even our physical state. But God’s promises remain constant. When he says he is with us, we can trust that he is with us—whether we feel it or not. There are times when God allows us to walk through seasons of dryness so that our faith can grow beyond emotion. So that we learn to trust him not just in the moments of clarity, but also in the moments of uncertainty. So if you find yourself in a season where God feels distant, don’t pull away. Lean in. Continue to pray. Continue to seek him. Continue to open his word, even when it feels difficult.

Faith is not built on feelings—it is built on truth. And the truth is that God is always near. Even in silence. Even in stillness. Even when you cannot feel him, he is there. Let us not base our relationship with God on how we feel, but on who he is.
