There are seasons in our lives when God feels quiet. When we pray and don’t immediately hear an answer. When we seek direction and feel uncertain about what comes next. In those moments, silence can feel unsettling. We may begin to wonder if God hears us, if he is near, or if he is working at all. But silence does not mean absence. Throughout Scripture, we see that God often works in seasons of silence. He prepares, refines, and strengthens his people in ways that are not always visible or immediate. Psalm 46, verse 10 says:
“He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
Stillness requires trust. It requires us to quiet our need for constant answers and rest in the assurance of who God is. Just because we don’t hear him does not mean he is not speaking. Just because we don’t see movement does not mean he is not working. There may be times when God’s silence is actually an invitation—to draw closer, to trust deeper, and to rely more fully on him. So I encourage you, if you find yourself in a quiet season, do not rush to fill the silence. Instead, lean into it. Spend time with God, even when it feels still.

God’s silence is not empty—it is purposeful. When we learn to trust him in the quiet, our faith grows stronger. Let us be still before him, knowing that he is always present, even in the silence.
