Words are powerful. They have the ability to build up or tear down, to encourage or discourage, to bring hope or to bring hurt. Sometimes we underestimate the impact of what we say. A careless word can linger in someone’s mind far longer than we realize. But a kind word, a word of encouragement, or a word of truth can have a lasting positive effect. Proverbs, chapter 18, verse 21 says:

“The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”

What we say matters. This applies not only to how we speak to others, but also how we speak to ourselves. The words we repeat in our minds shape the way we see ourselves and the world around us. So I encourage you to be intentional with your words. Choose to speak life. Choose to encourage. Choose to reflect God’s truth in the way you communicate.

Our words are a reflection of our hearts. When we fill our hearts with God’s truth, our words will follow. Let us use our words to bring life, not harm.
