Humility is often misunderstood. In the world, it can be seen as weakness or lack of confidence. But in God’s kingdom, humility is strength. Humility is not thinking less of yourself—it is thinking of yourself less. It is recognizing that everything we have, everything we are, and everything we accomplish ultimately comes from God. In James, chapter 4, verse 10, we are told:
“Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.”
Humility positions us correctly before God. When we walk in pride, we rely on ourselves. We elevate our own understanding, our own abilities, and our own perspective above everything else. But pride can create distance between us and God. Humility, on the other hand, draws us closer to him. It opens our hearts to learn, to grow, and to receive correction. It allows us to acknowledge that we don’t have all the answers—and that we don’t need to. There may be times when pride subtly creeps in. When we feel self-sufficient, or when we begin to take credit for what God has done. So I encourage you to examine your heart. Ask God to reveal areas where pride may be present.

Humility is not about lowering yourself—it is about lifting God higher. When we humble ourselves before him, we create space for him to work in and through us. Let us walk in humility, trusting that God will lift us up in his time.
