Grace is one of the most powerful and beautiful expressions of God’s character. It is the unearned, undeserved favor that he freely gives to us—not because of what we have done, but because of who he is. As human beings, we are often wired to believe that we must earn what we receive. We work for success, strive for approval, and measure our worth based on our performance. But grace does not operate that way. Grace is a gift. Ephesians, chapter 2, verse 8 says:
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.”
There is nothing we can do to earn God’s grace. We cannot work for it, prove ourselves worthy of it, or achieve it through our own effort. It is given freely. This can be difficult to fully accept. We may feel like we need to “get ourselves together” before coming to God. We may believe that we need to clean up our lives before we are worthy of his love. But grace meets us where we are. It is not something we earn—it is something we receive. And not only are we called to receive grace, but we are also called to extend it to others. Just as God has shown us compassion and mercy, we are to do the same. So I encourage you to embrace God’s grace today. Let go of the pressure to be perfect. Let go of the belief that you must earn his love.

Grace changes everything. It frees us from striving and invites us into relationship. Let us live in that grace daily, and extend it to others as it has been extended to us.
