Renewing Your Mind

Our thoughts have a powerful influence over our lives. What we think shapes how we feel, how we respond, and ultimately how we live. Yet many of us go through life without ever examining what is happening in our minds. We allow thoughts to come and go—some helpful, others harmful—without filtering or challenging them. Over time, those thoughts can begin to shape our identity and influence our behavior in ways we don’t even realize. But Scripture calls us to something different. In Romans, chapter 12, verse 2, we are told:

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is - his good, pleasing and perfect will.”

Transformation begins in the mind. If we want to live differently, we must think differently. If we want to grow in our faith, we must allow God’s truth to reshape the way we think. The world constantly feeds us messages—about success, identity, worth, and purpose. Many of those messages are not aligned with God’s truth. If we are not careful, we begin to adopt those patterns of thinking without even realizing it. Renewing your mind means replacing those patterns with God’s truth. It means recognizing when a thought does not align with what God says about you and choosing to reject it. It means intentionally filling your mind with Scripture, with truth, and with things that draw you closer to God. This is not something that happens overnight. It is a daily process. A discipline. So I encourage you to pay attention to your thoughts. When something negative, discouraging, or untrue enters your mind, pause and ask: does this align with God’s word?

A renewed mind leads to a transformed life. When we allow God to shape our thinking, we begin to see ourselves, others, and the world through his perspective. Let us be intentional about what we allow to take root in our minds.

Speak Life

Words are powerful. They have the ability to build up or tear down, to encourage or discourage, to bring hope or to bring hurt. Sometimes we underestimate the impact of what we say. A careless word can linger in someone’s mind far longer than we realize. But a kind word, a word of encouragement, or a word of truth can have a lasting positive effect. Proverbs, chapter 18, verse 21 says:

“The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”

What we say matters. This applies not only to how we speak to others, but also how we speak to ourselves. The words we repeat in our minds shape the way we see ourselves and the world around us. So I encourage you to be intentional with your words. Choose to speak life. Choose to encourage. Choose to reflect God’s truth in the way you communicate.

Our words are a reflection of our hearts. When we fill our hearts with God’s truth, our words will follow. Let us use our words to bring life, not harm.

Faithful in the Small

It is easy to desire big moments—big opportunities, big impacts, big breakthroughs. We often look for ways to make a difference on a large scale. But God places great value on faithfulness in the small things. In Luke, chapter 16, verse 10, Jesus says:

“Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.”

The small things matter. The quiet acts of obedience, the unseen moments of integrity, the daily choices to follow God—they all matter. We may think that what we are doing is insignificant. That no one sees it. That it doesn’t make a difference. But God sees. And he values faithfulness, even when it goes unnoticed by others. It is often in the small things that God prepares us for greater things. He builds our character, strengthens our faith, and teaches us to depend on him. So I encourage you not to overlook the small things in your life. Be faithful where you are. Honor God in the everyday moments.

Greatness in God’s kingdom is not measured by visibility—it is measured by faithfulness. Let us be people who are faithful in the small things, trusting that God is at work in every detail.

Let Go of Comparison

Comparison is something that many of us struggle with, often without even realizing it. We look at others—their success, their relationships, their opportunities—and begin to measure our lives against theirs. In doing so, we can quickly become discouraged. We may feel like we are falling behind, not doing enough, or somehow not measuring up. But comparison is a trap. It shifts our focus away from what God is doing in our lives and places it on what he is doing in someone else’s. Galatians, chapter 6, verse 4 reminds us:

“Each one should test their own actions. Then they can take pride in themselves alone, without comparing themselves to someone else.”

God did not create you to live someone else’s life. He created you with a unique purpose, a unique path, and a unique calling. When we compare, we diminish the work that God is doing in us. We overlook our own growth, our own blessings, and our own journey. And often, we are comparing our behind-the-scenes to someone else’s highlight reel. So I encourage you to shift your focus. Instead of looking around, look up. Seek God’s direction for your life. Celebrate what he is doing in you, even if it looks different from what he is doing in others.

Comparison steals joy, but contentment restores it. When we trust that God’s plan for us is good, we can walk confidently in our own path. Let us release the need to measure ourselves against others and instead embrace who God has called us to be.

When God Feels Distant

There are seasons in our walk with God when he feels incredibly close—when prayer flows easily, Scripture speaks clearly, and his presence feels undeniable. But there are also seasons when he feels distant. Silent. Hard to find. In those moments, it can be unsettling. We may begin to question whether we’ve done something wrong, whether God is disappointed in us, or even whether he is still near at all. But Scripture reminds us in Hebrews, chapter 13, the second part of verse 5:

“Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”

God’s presence is not dependent on our feelings. Just because he feels distant does not mean he is absent. In fact, many times, it is in these very seasons that he is doing some of his deepest work within us. Feelings can be misleading. They rise and fall based on circumstances, emotions, and even our physical state. But God’s promises remain constant. When he says he is with us, we can trust that he is with us—whether we feel it or not. There are times when God allows us to walk through seasons of dryness so that our faith can grow beyond emotion. So that we learn to trust him not just in the moments of clarity, but also in the moments of uncertainty. So if you find yourself in a season where God feels distant, don’t pull away. Lean in. Continue to pray. Continue to seek him. Continue to open his word, even when it feels difficult.

Faith is not built on feelings—it is built on truth. And the truth is that God is always near. Even in silence. Even in stillness. Even when you cannot feel him, he is there. Let us not base our relationship with God on how we feel, but on who he is.
